To address various national threats and the U.S. Department of Defense’s role in military and civilian defense technology, DomPrep recently hosted a roundtable discussion at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC).

Aaron Poynton from Federal Resources joined experts from government, military, and industry in the roundtable discussion on the wide-ranging challenges in fielding CBRNE defense technology in a climate of evolving and emerging threats. Dr. Poynton is a former Army CBRN Officer and former business executive with Smiths Detection and Thermo Fisher Scientific. That discussion, which was moderated by ECBC’s BioScience Division Chief Peter Emanuel, addressed an array of challenges including the need to reduce fielding time of new technologies, disconnects between military and state and local objectives, benefits and challenges of dual-use technology, and the future of CBRNE threats. This DomPrep editor’s commentary summarizes the discussion and introduces the September 2016 edition of DomPrep Journal.
